"Orange County Sheriff Mike Carona has been indicted on federal corruption charges stemming from a lengthy investigation into allegations that he had misused his office for financial gain, law enforcement officials said Monday," according to the L.A. Times.
The OC GOP machine was already in trouble this week after word got out that the O.C. Fire Authority was under-funded by Republican leaders led by Carona. And now Carona has been busted by the feds. Yes!
Of course the local OC GOP machine blog, Red County/OC Blog, leaped to the defense of their boy Carona yet again, "I'm not sure what to make of this newest development in the ongoing legal drama surrounding the Sheriff and his activities, but since the LA Times has a history of going after Mike Carona, we all should hold off judgment, at least until this indictment is made available to the public."

As is well known we cats have 9 lives, but as I watched and read the news this week I shuddered to think of all those cats who may have lost a few, or all of them, to the horror of fire.
Animal Companions and livestock, from Birds to Rabbits and beyond have been affected by this tragedy, and efforts are under way to provide disaster relief:

One of our perceptive readers asked me to find out just who backed Measure D - which WOULD HAVE provided additional funding for the Orange County Fire Authority, at the expense of our inept and perverted O.C. Sheriff, Mike Carona. Well, we will get to that. But I find it more interesting to take a look at just who played a role in defeating Measure D.
According to the local OC GOP spin machine, otherwise known as Red County/OC Blog, local conservative consultant John Lewis was the “senior consultant for the No on Measure D campaign.” Others who worked on the campaign included Chris Jones, Matt Holder, and Pete Mitchell.
