Costa Mesa, California - City Adopts Military Unit

costa-mesa.jpg
At their September 19, 2006 meeting, City Council unanimously chose to sponsor D Company, 2-25 Aviation Regiment of the United States Army.  The sponsorship program will provide the community with an opportunity to support the 94-plus member regiment, currently mobilized in Iraq.

D Company’s mission is to provide maintenance, inspection and procurement support to the Army’s Blackhawk helicopters.  The Unit will receive an augmentation of National Guard Soldiers in the coming weeks.

The City plans to provide information to the community on how to sponsor the Unit, items needed by the members, and a collection point for those items.  Support activities include letter-writing to the servicemen and women in D Company, interaction with other non-profit agencies supporting the military, special events and programs, and a City staff military appreciation day for those personnel who have military backgrounds or family in the armed forces).  Press releases, contacts with various local organizations and volunteer groups and City website postings will be initiated to facilitate the program.

For further information, please contact Carol Proctor, City Manager’s Office, at (714) 754-5688.
